The mission of the James E. Richmond Science Center is to inspire and stimulate an appreciation of science and its interrelationship with all other disciplines. We exist to serve and enrich the entire student population of Charles County, as well as the greater Southern Maryland community. We accomplish our goals by creating exciting and memorable experiences that are multi-disciplinary in focus and incorporate our hands-on Discovery Lab, NOAA Science on a Sphere content, and the Digital Dome Planetarium Classroom.
The James E. Richmond Science Center is located on the campus of St. Charles High School in Waldorf. The Science Center is a cutting edge experiential center that hosts school groups, family and community events. The Science Center’s focal points include a 184 seat digital dome classroom/ planetarium, a 6-foot diameter NOAA Science on a Sphere and a Discovery Lab all which are used in combination to allow students and visitors to experience various levels of science, math, history, and fine arts, in new and exciting ways. The Center specializes in STEM problem based learning and can customize learning experiences for all ages.
