During this fun field trip, students will see The Little Star That Could, a story about an average yellow star on a search for planets of his own to warm and protect. Along his way, he encounters other stars, learns what makes each star special, and discovers that stars can combine to form clusters and galaxies. Eventually, Little Star finds his planets, and each is introduced to audiences along with basic information about the Solar System.
In the Discovery Lab, students will have an up close encounter with all the planets in our solar system, and learn more about different kinds of stars. Everyone will also see all the planets and some fun shapes on our Science On a Sphere.

Students will explore what’s in their own backyard! They will discover things large and small, from the colors of the rainbow, to reasons for the seasons and the stars at night. Students will learn about the four seasons through our original interactive production of Sunny and Friends on the Science On a Sphere. Sunny the Sun and his friends, Crystal the Snowflake, Bolt the Lightning Bolt, and Leafy the Leaf, will teach students about why seasons happen, and the
appropriate clothing for the changing weather in each season. In the Digital Dome Classroom, students will watch In My Backyard and join children’s entertainer Fred Penner from TV’s Nickelodeon as he explores his backyard. Through the use of entertaining songs and immersive environments, children are encouraged to participate while learning about the planets, constellations, meteors, the moon and more. Rounding out the field trip experience, will a hands-on activity in the Discovery Lab, where students will make their own binoculars, so they can explore their own backyards.

This feature is a fun stop-motion style animated adventure explaining one of the greatest geological events in the history of the Earth: the separation of the supercontinent Pangaea. From racing across the landscape atop dinosaurs to plummeting to the center of the Earth, Dinosaur Passage to Pangaea is the perfect educational
glimpse at the tectonic forces that forged our world. In the Discovery Lab and Science On a Sphere, students will continue learning about tectonic forces and Earth’s layers through a hands-on plate tectonic activity and model of the Earth’s layers. Based on the children’s book “Little Polar Bear and the Whales,” Lars ventures out on the first day of spring, explores his Arctic home, meets new friends, and saves some endangered whales. The movie combines nature and environmental education, a gentle introduction to climate change, and a touch of astronomy. Learn about how real polar bears live, why they have small ears and
tails, what they eat, and how the melting sea ice is affecting their North Pole habitat. In our Discovery Lab, students will move through a series of hands-on activities exploring Arctic habitat adaptations. We will turn our Science on a Sphere® into a globe to locate the Arctic and Antarctic, and students will learn more about Arctic animals with an interactive story.

Summer heat. Autumn leaves. Winter snow, and the blossoms of springtime. Let’s investigate the science behind the annual change of the seasons! At our Science on a Sphere, our Virtual Orbital Latitude Assistant (VOLA) will guide students on a journey around the world, gathering data and exploring the influence of Earth’s tilt on weather and climate. Students see our planet in a lifelike, 3-dimensional way as we identify the hemispheres and visually define the lines of latitude and longitude.
In our Discovery Lab, we review the difference between daily rotation and annual revolution with a model showing Earth’s tilt, the basis of seasonal change. In our dome theater, the seasons go crazy! Join siblings Annie and Max on a worldwide, whirlwind adventure as they discover how and why the seasons change when we screen the fulldome movie, Tilt.

But, what makes Earth “just right?” With Perfect Little Planet in the Digital Dome Classroom, students will get a chance to discover our solar system through a different set of eyes – a family from another star system seeking the perfect vacation spot.
You can guess which planet is “just right” for their vacation. In the Discovery Lab, students will learn more about the solar system through a fun hands-on activity, and then learn all about Earth’s systems in an interactive Science On a Sphere program.
